Andaman and Nicobar Islands, located in the Bay of Bengal, are a string of 200, green islands that take your breath away. They totally come up to an area of 8,248sq.km. The capital is Port Blair. The highest point is 732m – on the Saddle Peak, in the Great Andaman Island. Mount Thullier, on Great Nicobar Island, at 642m, is the highest peak in the Nicobar Islands. The main economic returns come from agriculture and tourism. Forests cover about 86% of the islands. Rains lash the islands from May to September & November to January. The best time to visit is between October and April.
The Andamans are a terrific place for vacations. There are many things to do – sea swimming, trekking, snorkeling, cruising and mountain climbing. There are places off the coast where you can go for dives and there are places to spot birds. Some of the striking beaches are Karmatang beach, Ramnagar beach, Corbyn’s cove and Chirya Tapu.
