cruise ship Chennai - Port Blair

Founded in 1639 as a fishing hamlet, the East India Company made this port famous in the 18th century. There are oil jetties, iron ore berths and container terminals at Chennai Port. Cargo and passenger vessels visit this port every day. Just after Mumbai in size, Chennai Port is the second largest one in India. This artificial port is about 130 years old.

Along with Cochin, Goa, Mumbai and Mangalore, the Chennai Port is a major cruise port in India. It operates a passenger cruise terminal in the West Quay and an average of 10 cruise ships dock here every year. The country's first cruise ship, AMET Majesty, is registered in Chennai.

Railway lines help to transport cargo to and from the port. The port has three docks, 26 berths and a hub for cars and containers. There are plans to connect the port to hinterland areas, in the future.
